Türksat 5B satellite production and testing processes started in 2017. Following the successful completion of these stages, Türksat 5B was sent into space on December 19, 2021 from SpaceX’s launch center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA. Türksat 5B was put into service on 14 June 2022 with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
In the Türksat 5B Satellite Project, the Domestic Industry Contribution Program was implemented in order to develop and support the domestic satellite industry.
Two communication equipments were designed by ASELSAN and manufactured in Turkey and used in Türksat 5B.
6A will be launched into space next year
Satellite technology experience gained with domestic products is also transferred to Türksat 6A satellite studies.
Türksat 6A, whose test processes continue, is among the important projects of the national technology move. The satellite’s subsystems, satellite earth station and software are being developed with national resources.
While the engineering model equipment and system production of Türksat 6A has been completed, system level tests continue at the Satellite Systems Integration and Test Center. After the system level tests of the engineering model are completed, flight model integration and testing will continue.
The domestic and national Türksat 6A communication satellite is expected to be launched into space next year. With the launch of the satellite into space, Turkey will be one of the 10 countries represented in space by its own satellite.
African geography gained strong reach
Türksat 5B, the strongest of Turkey’s satellite fleet and put into service a year ago, has a wide range of countries including Turkey, as well as the entire Middle East, Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Mediterranean, North and East Africa, Nigeria, South Africa and its close neighbors. operates in a coverage area.
Türksat 5B is in the high-efficiency satellite category with at least 20 times more capacity efficiency than Türksat 4A and 4B.
With the satellite taking its place in space, the coverage area and speed of Türksat’s domestic and national satellite antenna family PeycON services also increase, and broadband internet and communication can be used on ships, airplanes, in mountains where terrestrial infrastructure cannot reach, or in any place within the coverage area in case of a natural disaster.
