The first half of the journey of the 7th National Antarctic Science Expedition team, carried out under the auspices of the Presidency and under the coordination of TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute (KARE) under the responsibility of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, was completed after 2 transfers, 5 hours of waiting time and a total of 18 hours of flight.

7th National Antarctic Science Expedition Coordinator Prof. Dr. The team consisting of Burcu Özsoy, 19 Turkish scientists and 3 high school students who applied for the 2204-C TUBITAK polar research project call and won the first place, arrived in Chile’s capital city, Santiago.

Turkey’s Ambassador to Santiago Gülcan Akoğuz and embassy staff welcomed the expedition crew at Santiago Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez Airport. After the welcome, the team gave information to the ambassador and took a group photo.

Halfway to Antarctica, the scientific delegation plans to reach Antarctic King George Island, after a 20-hour waiting period, after a flight to Punta Arenas with Ambassador Akoğuz.
